It's been a while, but I haven't been completely gone! Last week I guest blogged over at <a href="http://ramonarecommends.blogspot.com/2015/10/spooky-sparkling-recommendations.html">Ramona Recommends</a> about my favorite science mentor texts. You can go check it out! :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5_7C9ZpqMks/VjgUdzTbDoI/AAAAAAAAFi4/Ji8c34CDx6U/s1600/-1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="217" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5_7C9ZpqMks/VjgUdzTbDoI/AAAAAAAAFi4/Ji8c34CDx6U/s320/-1.png" width="320" /></a></div>
I currently do not teach science, but I did not too long ago. I always found it fun (and beneficial) to incorporate reading whenever I could! If I taught science now, I would definitely do it a lot different.<br />
<br />
It would mostly be a reading class with science integrated into it. I would incorporate literary, informational, and experiments on a daily basis! I also blog over at <a href="http://www.iteachfifth.com/">iTeach Fifth</a> every month. I try to save my 'good' stuff for my blog, but I can't help but to blurb a little over there, too!<br />
<br />
Sadly, my last blog here was directing you to THAT blog! With our first parent conferences behind us and me finding my swing this year, hopefully things will pick up around here.<br />
<br />
I'm not really sure what is up with this year... it could possibly be that my time has been basically cut in half. I just don't feel as together as I did last year. I don't really have enough time to teaching in rotations, so I find myself doing everything pretty much whole group... which I hate. I'm trying out something new, so I'm hoping it will be just what my students need!<br />
<br />
Check back later this week when I share what I did with theme this year!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14712940075769924407noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583032695515209069.post-50991896966991420542015-10-11T21:29:00.002-04:002015-10-11T21:29:44.340-04:00Reading Homework... Why You SHOULD Do It!How do you utilize reading homework in your classroom? This has been a long-lived debate in the literacy community. Many argue about the types of reading homework that is being given to students. I give my take on reading homework and what I use in my own classroom over at the<a href="http://www.iteachfifth.com/2015/10/reading-homework-why-you-should-do-it.html"> iTeach Fifth blog</a>. Go check out my <a href="http://www.iteachfifth.com/2015/10/reading-homework-why-you-should-do-it.html">post</a> and comment with how you utilize reading homework in your classroom!<br />

Let me tell you, they are Common Core ready! They have so many great supplemental resources for your classroom, and I was fortunate enough to get three resources to try out in my very own classroom. Here's what I chose to review!<br />
<br />
These <a href="http://www.carsondellosa.com/search-catalog?q=Learning%20Targets%20and%20Essential%20Questions%20Pocket%20Chart%20Cards&utm_source=TeachersTreasureChest&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=BrandAmbassador">Learning Target Pocket Chart</a> cards are every teacher's dream!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aPPVZFof9nU/VgnfZY_R31I/AAAAAAAAFfk/fG7Ue_6lTYY/s1600/learning%2Btargets.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aPPVZFof9nU/VgnfZY_R31I/AAAAAAAAFfk/fG7Ue_6lTYY/s400/learning%2Btargets.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pBeMb2mmF3E/VgnZF1BVURI/AAAAAAAAFe4/cDtP1cbL6SY/s1600/stuff%2Bfor%2Bschool%2B023.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-pBeMb2mmF3E/VgnZF1BVURI/AAAAAAAAFe4/cDtP1cbL6SY/s400/stuff%2Bfor%2Bschool%2B023.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">I'm thinking about incorporating these into my focus board. Just add small magnets to the back and you have versatile CC standard cards! They would be so easy to change out! OR... place them in a small pocket chart... instant LOVE! No more writing the standard each day/week!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;">How about this one?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E8D8HpfoGAI/VgnfZwrjyJI/AAAAAAAAFf0/kyIh2E9ott4/s1600/spectrum%2BLA.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E8D8HpfoGAI/VgnfZwrjyJI/AAAAAAAAFf0/kyIh2E9ott4/s400/spectrum%2BLA.jpg" width="308" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: start;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eeSWygI4h9Q/VgnbGAcRjUI/AAAAAAAAFfU/07KUZUoHgAQ/s1600/0928152021.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-eeSWygI4h9Q/VgnbGAcRjUI/AAAAAAAAFfU/07KUZUoHgAQ/s400/0928152021.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love the color pages. I'm always searching for good practice for my LA skills. This is the <a href="http://www.carsondellosa.com/brands/spectrum?utm_source=TeachersTreasureChest&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=BrandAmbassador">Spectrum 5th grade Language Arts Workbook</a>! It's absolutely A-mazing! At the top of each page, it talks about the skill and basically teaches it to the reader. Everything they need for review is at the top of each page. I have already used this several times since I've received it. The instructions are clear enough that my 5th grade students have no problem at all with understanding it.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Love this one, too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ya_Ip1n6cv4/VgnfZ89qhmI/AAAAAAAAFf4/ig1Ia1DOiVI/s1600/CC%2B4%2BToday.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Ya_Ip1n6cv4/VgnfZ89qhmI/AAAAAAAAFf4/ig1Ia1DOiVI/s400/CC%2B4%2BToday.jpg" width="306" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pJXFcshUoFg/VgnbGJZc-dI/AAAAAAAAFfQ/6hK7qTlVagg/s1600/0928152022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pJXFcshUoFg/VgnbGJZc-dI/AAAAAAAAFfQ/6hK7qTlVagg/s400/0928152022.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly is the <a href="http://www.carsondellosa.com/search-catalog?q=Common%20Core%204%20Today&utm_source=TeachersTreasureChest&utm_medium=blog&utm_campaign=BrandAmbassador">Language Arts Common Core 4 Today Workbook</a> for 5th grade. This actually wasn't my first time seeing this workbook as I have used it in the past many times. I love the format of this resource because it can be used for homework or seat work. I've used it for both! This particular picture is for writing. It also incorporates 5th grade language arts skills, too!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R0VxJc7dJgo/VgXOxegiOkI/AAAAAAAAFdY/XkXPtazIkIU/s1600/organize%2Bresources.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="310" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-R0VxJc7dJgo/VgXOxegiOkI/AAAAAAAAFdY/XkXPtazIkIU/s320/organize%2Bresources.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm all about making things better for me and more efficient! And let me tell you, I've tried almost everything you can think of when it comes to organizing my curriculum. I just haven't been too good at this...ever!<br />
<br />
I've tried file folders... only to have the paper falling out all over the place!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QzB1f4lq0PQ/VgXPLQKhBGI/AAAAAAAAFeI/p3wCPCkpy2c/s1600/Slide6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QzB1f4lq0PQ/VgXPLQKhBGI/AAAAAAAAFeI/p3wCPCkpy2c/s400/Slide6.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I've tried putting all my resources in binders... only to have so many that I didn't know which one to look through!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zp1vEQxsNsI/VgXPF9p2PaI/AAAAAAAAFdw/xwuw0rl0jCw/s1600/Slide2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zp1vEQxsNsI/VgXPF9p2PaI/AAAAAAAAFdw/xwuw0rl0jCw/s400/Slide2.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I've tried storing everything digitally... but the folders became too overwhelming!<br />
<br />
I've tried folders... again! This time in a file cabinet, but I quickly figured out that by standard was not the way to go!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-alLkFfNFYcc/VgXPLKex1II/AAAAAAAAFeE/crLel7RL8JU/s1600/Slide5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-alLkFfNFYcc/VgXPLKex1II/AAAAAAAAFeE/crLel7RL8JU/s400/Slide5.png" width="300" /></a></div>
Finally... I came up with a solution that I think is going to work for me! After I created my year-long curriculum/pacing guide, it became clear that I needed something! It's still the binder method, but it's more organized! My first step was to pace out my school year based on my county's curriculum map. When I finished, it looked like this!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q970vynt-TQ/VgXPF0KPNII/AAAAAAAAFd0/iZa9IcFcFDM/s1600/Slide3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-q970vynt-TQ/VgXPF0KPNII/AAAAAAAAFd0/iZa9IcFcFDM/s400/Slide3.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
I LOVE IT! It's so easy to glance over and see what's coming up. It's also super easy to see exactly what I'm teaching each quarter. If you would like me to upload the template on TpT, please let me know. This idea lead me to my new binder system. So, Quarterly Binders were born!! <strike>If you want the cover template, please let me know!</strike> You can now download the template in my shop by clicking <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Free-Pacing-Guide-Template-for-Year-Long-Planning-2123362">here.</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RU9EQ7mm1bQ/VgXPLnfnHiI/AAAAAAAAFeM/4ZGoI3v-aZw/s1600/Slide7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-RU9EQ7mm1bQ/VgXPLnfnHiI/AAAAAAAAFeM/4ZGoI3v-aZw/s400/Slide7.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
The first thing I did was go down my pacing guide and create a tab for each skill in reading, LA, and writing. Then, I divided the tabs into 4 different binders.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CpmfCjH9blI/VgXPO6si03I/AAAAAAAAFeY/qpYf6wELVFY/s1600/Slide8.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-CpmfCjH9blI/VgXPO6si03I/AAAAAAAAFeY/qpYf6wELVFY/s400/Slide8.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b-EJdhNuRJA/VgXPPXfO79I/AAAAAAAAFec/lgXwFj2dNUc/s1600/Slide9.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-b-EJdhNuRJA/VgXPPXfO79I/AAAAAAAAFec/lgXwFj2dNUc/s400/Slide9.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Then, I went through my go-to resources and pulled out things I *KNOW* I will use and placed them in the correct binder and then tab.<br />
<br />
When it's time for planning, I just grab my quarterly binder and find what I want to use. It's sitting right on my table right beside my desk.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HPDnqKs_2pc/VgXPF4pEDJI/AAAAAAAAFds/T4nRKL2BP7g/s1600/Slide4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-HPDnqKs_2pc/VgXPF4pEDJI/AAAAAAAAFds/T4nRKL2BP7g/s400/Slide4.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
It's so easy! Why didn't I think of this like 3 years ago???? What's your favorite way to organize your resources?<br />
<br />
Here's an image for pinning!<br />

This week, I will not be sharing my visual plans. Instead, I will be sharing how I organize my planning each week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtwAgDEL5BU/Ve0Gp4MzOxI/AAAAAAAAFbE/-HF2G3qd5CY/s1600/Planning%2Btips%2Band%2Btricks.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="147" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZtwAgDEL5BU/Ve0Gp4MzOxI/AAAAAAAAFbE/-HF2G3qd5CY/s400/Planning%2Btips%2Band%2Btricks.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_Fu3vmrhiHk/VfYv46d7AaI/AAAAAAAAFcI/LbYPL4iJybU/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-_Fu3vmrhiHk/VfYv46d7AaI/AAAAAAAAFcI/LbYPL4iJybU/s320/2.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span id="goog_978185622"></span><span id="goog_978185623"></span><br /></div>
I remember back when I first started teaching. I would stay late until 6pm almost every day. Then I would trudge out of the school with a bag too heavy for me to carry. How was I so behind and what happened to all my time at school? When two small children came into the picture, the work at home ceased. However, I was still staying at school later than I wanted to.<br />
<br />
Here are a few Tips and Tricks that I have found in the past year that has really helped me out in a big way. It's totally been a life saver for me!<br />
<br />
First, this photo happened upon my news feed a year or so ago. It's from Miss DeCarbo who has such great organizational ideas. She wrote and <a href="http://www.secondgradesugarandspice.blogspot.com/2014/11/how-i-stay-organized-weekly-lesson.html">entire post</a> about how she organizes her planning life each week. This is where my inspiration came from!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GPXEvz8tLZU/Ve0DNzgjn9I/AAAAAAAAFa4/DVyah5fS4S0/s1600/187af56528232bcece19a15e57e20a0f.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GPXEvz8tLZU/Ve0DNzgjn9I/AAAAAAAAFa4/DVyah5fS4S0/s320/187af56528232bcece19a15e57e20a0f.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
As soon as the week starts on Monday, I start preparing for the next week. That's the ticket to not staying late day after day or taking things home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
DO A LITTLE EACH DAY!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I use this time to get together things I use each week. I find the copies I will need for the following week and create my reading log and any other word lists (spelling or vocab). I place all the to to-be copied papers in my To Copy drawer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Morning Work</li>
<li>Reading Logs</li>
<li>Spelling List</li>
<li>Vocabulary List</li>
</ul>
To help my sanity, I have a label I have created to place in my lesson planner each week. The to-do list is for the following week so I can get busy on Monday afternoons!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JNyuG4HldMg/VfYwHPjQ_ZI/AAAAAAAAFcQ/Ef0jSX6Fjvs/s1600/Slide4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-JNyuG4HldMg/VfYwHPjQ_ZI/AAAAAAAAFcQ/Ef0jSX6Fjvs/s400/Slide4.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3Ykhf-FOMt0/Ve0H359ghRI/AAAAAAAAFbk/JHEAz1ipLvI/s1600/Tuesday.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="73" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3Ykhf-FOMt0/Ve0H359ghRI/AAAAAAAAFbk/JHEAz1ipLvI/s200/Tuesday.png" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I use this day to get my resources together based on the skill we will be working on. I may not use ALL of the resources, but I get them together for my planning meeting. I have a planning folder I use put all the resources in.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x1_1jYGP4Vo/Ve0H4TMgrFI/AAAAAAAAFb0/IM4Fid3JxUU/s1600/Wednesday.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="56" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-x1_1jYGP4Vo/Ve0H4TMgrFI/AAAAAAAAFb0/IM4Fid3JxUU/s200/Wednesday.png" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I use Wednesdays for planning. This is the day I plan with my team. I take my resources out of my folder and write my pre-planning plans in my Day Designer planner {thanks, <a href="http://www.lifeinfifthgrade.com/">Ms. Leslie Ann</a> for this idea!}. I then place the copies I'm going to use in my To-Copy drawer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thursday is the day where I get it all together. It is also the one day during the week that I plan to work an additional 2 hours past the time I am allowed to leave. I try to only stay late one day a week so I can go home on time every other day! I get all my copies ready for coping (we have someone who does this for us), create all my anchor charts, and plan my focus board wording. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-il5CBm3EzMA/VfYwS11M4nI/AAAAAAAAFcc/r50YJC7dcpo/s1600/Slide2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-il5CBm3EzMA/VfYwS11M4nI/AAAAAAAAFcc/r50YJC7dcpo/s400/Slide2.png" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On Fridays I finalize my plans and write my final plans in my Anchor Teacher Planner that I absolutely LOVE! I also type my newsletter and work on my website for the following week. Once all the copies are done, I place them in my Days of the Week drawers that I pull from during the week.Now I can enjoy my weekend with no planning worries!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't forget your favorite pens and markers when planning!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This routine works so well for me and has totally changed the way I plan! Do you have anything that works well for you?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14712940075769924407noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583032695515209069.post-21472987815277173142015-09-06T22:00:00.002-04:002015-09-06T22:00:49.520-04:00Peek at My Week: Week #5I can't believe it's week #5 already. We are going slow and steady, but we will get there! Instead of a 2 week character trait unit, I'm looking at more than 3 weeks! We were a little busy last week, so we are just introducing character traits this week.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xAEFYJfxuDI/Vezss5hlFgI/AAAAAAAAFZI/iIaxE4cyW9w/s1600/Peek%2Bat%2Bmy%2BWeek%2Bbutton.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xAEFYJfxuDI/Vezss5hlFgI/AAAAAAAAFZI/iIaxE4cyW9w/s320/Peek%2Bat%2Bmy%2BWeek%2Bbutton.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Here are some things I refuse to give up no matter how much time I lack!<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Independent Reading Time</li>
<li>Read Aloud Time</li>
<li>Student Conferences</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sJAxjNJkPPg/Vezspg6Zs7I/AAAAAAAAFZA/gxStOu_ORJ0/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="494" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sJAxjNJkPPg/Vezspg6Zs7I/AAAAAAAAFZA/gxStOu_ORJ0/s640/Slide1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
I am working on a new resource that I will be using this week. I'll be using it in my classroom first to see how it goes before I post it in my store. It's a stand-alone unit that can be used to teach character traits. I will be using it to help get my students to start comparing characters since that is our 5th grade standard. It's not ready yet, but you can find it in my store in the next few weeks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K4BRBBX9hiw/Vezt8XoiNWI/AAAAAAAAFZU/ozfod41e9Cc/s1600/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-06%2Bat%2B9.17.56%2BPM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-K4BRBBX9hiw/Vezt8XoiNWI/AAAAAAAAFZU/ozfod41e9Cc/s400/Screen%2BShot%2B2015-09-06%2Bat%2B9.17.56%2BPM.png" width="313" /></a></div>
I will be posting later this week about how my introductory (or review) lesson goes this week. I'll also include some pics of my students using my new product I'm working on.<br />
<br />
Have you ever used Quizlet? I'll be posting about it later this week over on the <a href="http://www.iteachfifth.com/">iTeach Fifth</a> blog. Go check it out! It will be posted on the 11th!<br />
<br />

It's week #4 at school, and I haven't ACTUALLY posted nothing.. nada!.. on there. Shame on me! I'm at least wanting to link up the Quizlet.com links to our vocabulary this week. So, here we go... 5 Things!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ITiUgqKvxXc/VeOzIJUhr3I/AAAAAAAAFXI/wlfbrJNt-6o/s1600/monday%2Bfun%2Bfacts.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ITiUgqKvxXc/VeOzIJUhr3I/AAAAAAAAFXI/wlfbrJNt-6o/s1600/monday%2Bfun%2Bfacts.png" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a_2izomfjs0/VeOwouLdyuI/AAAAAAAAFWs/kykv17llhig/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-a_2izomfjs0/VeOwouLdyuI/AAAAAAAAFWs/kykv17llhig/s1600/1.png" /></a></div>
I'm an introvert... can you believe it? It's totally true! I love quiet (at home but not in my classroom... go figure) and would rather have time alone. Sometimes I don't even really like to talk to others.. LOL! The bad thing is, my husband is the TOTAL opposite. He's very outgoing and enjoys conversation. Sometimes it's a challenge for him to relate to me!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ukjlkEspmqM/VeOwpJcM7CI/AAAAAAAAFWc/Ik8QsRxisMc/s1600/two.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ukjlkEspmqM/VeOwpJcM7CI/AAAAAAAAFWc/Ik8QsRxisMc/s1600/two.png" /></a></div>
I hated school when I was younger. There, I said it! I absolutely hated school and had no desire to be a teacher. Sure, I played school when I was little, but I didn't decide to become a teacher until AFTER I had already started college!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cKsEzIf2dvo/VeOwolFp8kI/AAAAAAAAFWo/cvAPJijV6mU/s1600/3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cKsEzIf2dvo/VeOwolFp8kI/AAAAAAAAFWo/cvAPJijV6mU/s1600/3.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I love to shop... anything! It doesn't even have to be for me! I love to shop for my kids, my husband, my sisters, my students... whoever! AND... it's even better when the money isn't mine.. LOL!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cR3J7QLCQ4s/VeOwogGQ5LI/AAAAAAAAFWU/8JbBezMmTpk/s1600/4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cR3J7QLCQ4s/VeOwogGQ5LI/AAAAAAAAFWU/8JbBezMmTpk/s1600/4.png" /></a></div>
Four is for 4... I have been blogging for 4 years! Kind of hard to imagine! During those four years I have went from a 4th grade math guru to a 5th grade ELA nut job. Seriously... I love teaching ELA but sometimes I feel like it is the most challenging subject to teach. Dealing with students who are in 5th grade that read at early 1st grade level is a MAJOR issue!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FOipKPDXEfE/VeOyJLg-BgI/AAAAAAAAFW8/fytFLkQILNI/s1600/5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FOipKPDXEfE/VeOyJLg-BgI/AAAAAAAAFW8/fytFLkQILNI/s1600/5.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I LIVE IN A HOUSE WITH ALL BOYS... and I grew up with all sisters... and I truly love it! But... I can't wait until we move into a larger home, and I can have my 'woman' cave! I do love my boys.. and they spoil me which is always kind of nice ;)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

Link up with Blog Hoppin' and share your 5 Fun Facts! I'll have to link up when I get home from soccer practice!</div>

This year had started off in a hurry, and I feel like it's still the first few weeks of school! I can't believe it's been a month since we started this school year! I have such a long ways to go before I start feeling comfortable with my new schedule! I have learned that we are just gonna go at a much slower pace than last year... and that's okay!<br />
<br />
I'm trying to make every second count, and you can tell in my plans. Here are my weekly plans for week #4!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I will also be using some of my character passages that are in my seat work bundles. These are also GREAT for homework. You can get them <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Terri-Thornton/Category/Common-Core-Morning-Seat-Work">here</a>.</div>

I eagerly run around the room at the end of the day try to get everything 'just so' for the following week. I'm going to better utilize my time eventually, but until then I'll have to do my Five for Friday on Saturday mornings! Here are some pictures I've taken this week that never made it over to Instagram! I'm linking up with Kacey from <a href="http://doodlebugsteaching.blogspot.com/2015/08/five-for-friday-linky-party-august-28th.html">Doodle Bugs Teaching!</a><br />

I just finished my first full cycle of vocabulary and it went pretty well. You can read about it <a href="http://www.thecreativeappleteaching.com/2015/08/vocabulary-study-update.html">here</a>. For my next cycle, I will implement some online tools to help the students study at home. I'll post about how that goes next week :)</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I always write my lesson plans on a printable planner I use each week. A few weeks ago, Leslie Ann from Life in Fifth Grade posted about how she uses a Day Design Planner to pre-write her plans. I loved her idea so much that I went out and found me one... Only I didn't! If you saw <a href="https://instagram.com/p/6d17AMDu8V/?taken-by=thecreativeapple">this</a> picture on Instagram then you know I was pretty disappointed! Luckily, my sweet friend from <a href="http://www.notjustanynerdyeducator.com/">Not Jane</a> had an extra she wasn't using. She mailed it to me and it's the best thing ever!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This past week I broke out my <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Getting-Started-with-Text-Based-Evidence-Literary-1677425">Intro to TBE unit</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ObW5FxEsRfY/VeHjaHjEcMI/AAAAAAAAFTo/54Ifa6dwgfI/s1600/original-1677425-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ObW5FxEsRfY/VeHjaHjEcMI/AAAAAAAAFTo/54Ifa6dwgfI/s320/original-1677425-1.jpg" width="246" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used it to teach TBE to my students and how to support our answers with evidence. We only focused on one question because that took long enough! This product contains explicit directions on how to use TBE, bookmarks, anchor chart example, anchor chart student printable, 5 passages with 5 TBE questions, and many more! It's a huge timesaver! Anyways, the model lesson is a 'scary' passage about a mansion that two friends are dared to enter. It ends with the girl character walking through the door and getting a chill down her spine. Oh my! I had no idea 5th graders loved a mystery so much! In fact, they loved it so much that after we did our lesson I have them 10 minutes to continue the story. IT.WAS.UNBELIEVEABLE! You know the students that will not do any work?!? They were writing! It was amazing. These are pictures of the 10 minute free write. I'm thinking we will work on these this entire 1st quarter since they loved them so much! Then, we'll hang them up in a 'spooky' way!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Yesterday we had our first reading response day. Each Friday my students will have an reading response assignment waiting on them in Google Classroom. I {LOVE} this! Not only is it a great outlet for reflective writing and reading, but I get to know each student a little better! I add comments and they can comment back to me. This is one of my four classes working away!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Lastly, I can't wait to join in on all the fun! I'm hoping I will have time to post each day. This is going to be my goal(s) once I get all my papers graded this weekend!</div>

That means it is time for a Peek at my Week with Mrs. Wills' weekly link up. Here are my visuals, and I'm going to explain a little bit about what I'm doing!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IuaRy4ZLuYY/VdpjpL8sRpI/AAAAAAAAFRY/yFK5avSANxY/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="494" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IuaRy4ZLuYY/VdpjpL8sRpI/AAAAAAAAFRY/yFK5avSANxY/s640/Slide1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Evidence-Talkers-Evidence-Board-Cards-1722184">Text Talker Cards</a> // <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Close-Reading-Posters-1848857">Text-Based Evidence Posters</a> (Hello Lit.) // <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Comp-Files-Practice-Passages-for-Showing-Text-Based-Evidence-AugSept-1996144">Comp Files</a> (by LAR) // <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Summarizing-Paraphrasing-and-Quoting-Informational-Text-Task-Cards-1111454">Task Cards</a> (TWAMV)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To say that I'm a little disappointed with how last week went is an understatement. I am already so behind what I had hoped to have done. My read aloud time is pretty much non-existent, and only one of my classes has time for independent reading time. That is TOTALLY unacceptable! I'm definitely going to be doing some major reflection on how I need my literacy block to work and how I can accomplish that. To help a little, I have decided to have a formal grammar and writing lesson on alternate weeks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After this week, I'm sure my plans will look a lot different. I am going to try to read a little more and talk a little less :) I already have an alternate plan for my co-teaching class. There are three teachers in the room and we are each doing a small group each day, so I will be teaching the same thing for three days while the others teach something different.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One thing that went really well was my vocabulary study. It took a little longer than expected, but I was pleased with how it finished out. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xSoK9cG9bU4/VdpmkZeYxfI/AAAAAAAAFRw/QVwqBAetmZU/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-xSoK9cG9bU4/VdpmkZeYxfI/AAAAAAAAFRw/QVwqBAetmZU/s320/Slide1.png" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If you want to read more about it, you can <a href="http://www.thecreativeappleteaching.com/2015/08/vocabulary-study-update.html">here</a>.</div>

OH.MY!!<br />
<br />
I have a lot of things that need adjusting... like the amount of work I have planned. My classes are about an hour shorter this year, so I found myself having way too much to do and not enough time to do it. Needless to say... I was a little stressed!<br />
<br />
I did manage to get my first week of vocabulary complete! It took a little longer than expected, but I'm hoping the time will shorten once we get the hang of it. If you follow me on <a href="https://instagram.com/thecreativeapple/">Instagram</a>, then you probably saw this picture!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OksjU9ZzWzI/VdkvJc1fz3I/AAAAAAAAFQQ/TNbCfA_3L0o/s1600/Slide3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OksjU9ZzWzI/VdkvJc1fz3I/AAAAAAAAFQQ/TNbCfA_3L0o/s400/Slide3.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Many were asking about my vocabulary planning sheet and how I use Chromebooks to help my students with vocabulary. To be honest, it was one of those times when you have an idea at the last moment. I really didn't want my students to search through dictionaries to find the definition, synonyms, antonyms, and other ways to use the words. I grabbed my Chromebooks, paired my students together, and sent them to www.merriam-webster.com. I tried to look for other sites, but this one was simple enough for my 5th graders and had everything they needed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are some other pictures of them working.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IEsgRiUmNPM/VdkvJPLL_YI/AAAAAAAAFQU/9CF06r6CQhk/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IEsgRiUmNPM/VdkvJPLL_YI/AAAAAAAAFQU/9CF06r6CQhk/s320/Slide1.png" width="240" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E9qEY3H5uTc/VdkvJekypyI/AAAAAAAAFQY/PqHuczFkXZE/s1600/Slide2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-E9qEY3H5uTc/VdkvJekypyI/AAAAAAAAFQY/PqHuczFkXZE/s320/Slide2.png" width="240" /></a></div>

They absolutely loved this lesson! Here's what we did each day! It only took us 3 days to complete the work, but I'm hoping to get it down to 2!<br />
<b><u>Monday-</u></b> we read the sentences and decided which words went where (close style). We then determined the meaning of the words by using context clues.<br />
<b><u>Tuesday-</u></b> the students worked on chrome books and found antonyms and synonyms for each word.<br />
<b><u>Wednesday- </u></b>the students used the kid-friendly definition we came up with together, the sentence on the chart, and synonyms/antonyms to create their own sentence.<br />
<br />
Before I gave the vocabulary planner to my students, I wrote out kid-friendly definition for each word OR you could have them write it.<br />
<br />
Here's what our chart looked like after our vocabulary work days!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OTXBIDqdgf4/VdkvPKmrUjI/AAAAAAAAFQw/xwyflRUS4IQ/s1600/Slide6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OTXBIDqdgf4/VdkvPKmrUjI/AAAAAAAAFQw/xwyflRUS4IQ/s400/Slide6.png" width="300" /></a></div>
I have decided that I really need 2 black pocket charts since I am teaching two different books. Right now I am switching them out with each class (I teach 4 classes and we are doing 2 different books) and it is a pain! I think I'm going to take down the orange charts and replace them with a full-size. I'm planning on putting the orange charts near so I can place our words in as we finish each cycle.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X-ISWB_Oaig/VdkvRCYgoEI/AAAAAAAAFQ8/yJBldHlchfQ/s1600/Slide7.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X-ISWB_Oaig/VdkvRCYgoEI/AAAAAAAAFQ8/yJBldHlchfQ/s400/Slide7.png" width="300" /></a></div>

Last week was our first full week. We spent a lot of time talking about routines, what our class schedule will look like, and choosing good fit books. We also had our first book share on Friday which went really well! I don't have any pictures to share because I was OH.SO.TIRED! I swear I went to bed around 8 or 9:00 every night. Tonight, I'm linking up with Dee Dee to share my visual plans for this coming week.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.mrswillskindergarten.com/2015/08/peek-at-my-weekclassroom-tour.html"><img border="0" height="170" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-E8j3kvPEp8U/VdEk2lrN8jI/AAAAAAAAFPY/bgy5Z1gLI3o/s200/peek%2Bat%2Bmy%2Bweek%2B2015.png" width="200" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Before I get into my plans, let me say a few things. This is my first year teaching four classes. Last year I had a little over 2 hours with each class! I have no idea what this schedule is going to actually be like once I begin, and I can honestly say that I think I have way over planned! I just don't think I'm going to have enough time! Secondly, 4th & 5th grades are in a separate building from the rest of the school. We have a designated day every other week to devote to library time. It pretty much takes up the entire day. In between visits, my students use my classroom library and 2-3 book carts in our building. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
These are not my lesson plans. I am putting them in a visual format for you, my readers, to see. I use a lesson plan book that I write in. I've done digital plans the past three years, but I'm too OCD for that! I found that I spent more time on changing fonts and making them cutesy! It took me forever to lesson plan!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If you have any other questions about anything you see, leave them in the comments section below and I will try to answer them!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since we do a lot of constructed response right away (in science & social studies, too) I always start off with this unit! This is the unit where I also introduce my text talker board. I will probably focus more on that during week #3. I always start my Monday off with an anchor chart. We usually use it for the entire week. It will go on my reading board in my classroom. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a42ZmkUpDTs/VdEqmBJFyHI/AAAAAAAAFPw/pybwU-N4z74/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a42ZmkUpDTs/VdEqmBJFyHI/AAAAAAAAFPw/pybwU-N4z74/s400/Slide1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am going to use my lapbook that I created for this unit for note taking, partner work, and independent practice. I plan on blogging about this when my students finish it this week. After the lap book, my students will get more practice by using task cards. I will use this time to work with students who had a difficult time with their independent work from Tuesday. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I can only devote 2-3 days to grammar and writing. I plan on alternating weeks so I can fit them both in. Even though I do not have it here, my students will have time responding to what they read with writing. I haven't figured it all out yet so that's why I didn't post it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I will devote some time each day to read alouds. This will also be connected with the skill we are working on for the week. For vocabulary, we are using words from our read alouds as well. This is something new I am starting this year after reading Word Nerds. I'm not really sure how this will go, but I'm excited {and nervous}! Our first day is tomorrow! I also plan on blogging about how it goes this week. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This week is pretty much going to be a try and see. I have a lot of new things I'm trying in a shorter amount of time. I can't wait to see how it all flows together. If you haven't already, <a href="http://www.mrswillskindergarten.com/2015/08/peek-at-my-weekclassroom-tour.html">go link up</a> and see what everyone else is teaching this week!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, folks! It's is finally here! A chance to share my classroom for this year. I'm in the same room as the past two years, but I changed it up just a little. I added in a bright coral and some black. I think the black really makes the colors pop! Evidently, I took way too many pictures! I am sharing some now and will share more in a few days! I'm going to tell a little about each picture. You can leave questions in the comments section below!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JB1H24mZ6Ok/Vc09wlZGe9I/AAAAAAAAFM0/zP_hcXyb8qE/s1600/2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-JB1H24mZ6Ok/Vc09wlZGe9I/AAAAAAAAFM0/zP_hcXyb8qE/s400/2.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is what my classroom looks like when you walk through my door. Most of the time I only have on 2/3 of my lights. I have a lot of lamps and prefer those over the overheads. Just in case you are wondering (which a lot do!) the color over my lights are fabric rectangles. I put these over my lights because 1) I like color 2) It helps the lights not be so bright 3) My kids love them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3Fl03pHX_18/Vc09z5c9f5I/AAAAAAAAFNI/kwQht05O5Ew/s1600/3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3Fl03pHX_18/Vc09z5c9f5I/AAAAAAAAFNI/kwQht05O5Ew/s400/3.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is my student supply area. Students are allowed to use any of the materials here. In the green bucket beside the lamp is a great haul of Mr. Sketch markers. At the end of the year, I always put my Mr. Sketch markers out for my students to use. We create a lot of student-created anchor charts and examples and the students love using scented markers!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X78_REK-vcU/Vc091dNEPQI/AAAAAAAAFNM/IqALXtOOlFU/s1600/4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X78_REK-vcU/Vc091dNEPQI/AAAAAAAAFNM/IqALXtOOlFU/s400/4.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is under my focus board and whiteboard. These are my Speaking & Listening standard posters. You can find them <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speaking-Listening-Classroom-Posters-5th-Grade-1969833" target="_blank">here</a>. We are going to talk about these on Friday before our book shares begin!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5zpRnL3Ncko/Vc091qvQEOI/AAAAAAAAFNQ/z53KkeJewwQ/s1600/5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-5zpRnL3Ncko/Vc091qvQEOI/AAAAAAAAFNQ/z53KkeJewwQ/s400/5.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
These are my Flip Books for Parent Night! I had these out for my parents at opening house. They loved them and all the information they were able to take home and read right away. You can download it <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Back-to-School-Parent-Night-Flipbook-EDITABLE-1957142" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2tKme7Lcvc/Vc092wKSoFI/AAAAAAAAFNc/BBG_Z23fZPc/s1600/6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Y2tKme7Lcvc/Vc092wKSoFI/AAAAAAAAFNc/BBG_Z23fZPc/s400/6.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is probably one of my favorite areas in my classroom.... my classroom library. It has taken a while (and a lot of Donors Choose projects) to get this library where my students have plenty to read! My students are not allowed to check out books from our school library right away. It was so great to put books in the hands of my students on the second day of school! I plan on using the green board to display our Scholastic goal chart, anchor charts, and anything else!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XTOrCqXvBW4/Vc09iJ7NohI/AAAAAAAAFLo/Irs4PRaV6D4/s1600/10.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XTOrCqXvBW4/Vc09iJ7NohI/AAAAAAAAFLo/Irs4PRaV6D4/s400/10.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the view of my classroom from the back of my room. I have tables this year which I LOVE!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xx4t1CkUUMA/Vc09hxUVkHI/AAAAAAAAFLk/7ijMAbCIv68/s1600/11.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xx4t1CkUUMA/Vc09hxUVkHI/AAAAAAAAFLk/7ijMAbCIv68/s400/11.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Small group area and teacher desk area.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XjoB6O_pd8g/Vc09mMcx4aI/AAAAAAAAFL4/uO7_GXCioPA/s1600/12.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XjoB6O_pd8g/Vc09mMcx4aI/AAAAAAAAFL4/uO7_GXCioPA/s400/12.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is behind my small group table. I store a lot of my teaching resources and personal things on these bookcases. I love having pictures of my family around my room. I think it helps your students feel that they are a part of your family! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jyZ0ZvgZmGk/Vc09mzxQ__I/AAAAAAAAFL8/CUl2UoPrHtw/s1600/13.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jyZ0ZvgZmGk/Vc09mzxQ__I/AAAAAAAAFL8/CUl2UoPrHtw/s400/13.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is where I store my task cards for reading and ELA. This was the best thing I did last year! You can download them for free <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Task-Card-Dividers-1636080">here.</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
My desk... there's a lot going on but everything I need is right where I need it :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I LOVE my Ikea desktop sorter :) It makes my heart happy!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Frbc0wZFU-w/Vc09r0BFhxI/AAAAAAAAFMY/fOHZPePVW3c/s1600/16.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Frbc0wZFU-w/Vc09r0BFhxI/AAAAAAAAFMY/fOHZPePVW3c/s400/16.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
One of my favorite places in my room... my document camera station. I use this every.single.day! Can any of you NOT live without it?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-amJm5LDndOk/Vc09sEtQX-I/AAAAAAAAFMc/2xp6A7wuwYs/s1600/17.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-amJm5LDndOk/Vc09sEtQX-I/AAAAAAAAFMc/2xp6A7wuwYs/s400/17.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

I have two of these available for only $35 each! It even comes with a small chalkboard area for your very own personalization! {Please note they do not say "welcome back."}</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UULxAik3xME/Vc09s6lR7iI/AAAAAAAAFMg/ryKaVDK9Ums/s1600/18.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UULxAik3xME/Vc09s6lR7iI/AAAAAAAAFMg/ryKaVDK9Ums/s400/18.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is a view of my small group area from my classroom door. This is the area you first see when you walk in!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
Lastly, this is my beautiful view from my small group table. I think it's important for your room to be a place you love to be. I think I have accomplished that and I truly LOVE the bright coral and black I added this year!</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CPRAqr7BV9I/VbRHIsRhuEI/AAAAAAAAFKU/3JSNayLfork/s1600/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CPRAqr7BV9I/VbRHIsRhuEI/AAAAAAAAFKU/3JSNayLfork/s320/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Chapter 8 is all about assessing. Let me start off with the quote that started the chapter!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UJ0Zk-KOf48/VbRHLCMYJcI/AAAAAAAAFKk/RnCvalDHp_A/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UJ0Zk-KOf48/VbRHLCMYJcI/AAAAAAAAFKk/RnCvalDHp_A/s640/Slide1.png" width="640" /></a></div>
As teachers, I think we sometimes get caught up in the hustle of teaching, assessing, and giving grades that we often times forget the true meaning of assessing. I know I am guilty of this. It's a super busy time of the year, you grade the weekly assessment (I'll talk more about this in a minute), get your data/students together you want to meet with, then something comes up the following Monday and your reteaching groups gets pushed each day until you totally forget about it. It's not Friday again, you finally remember, but it's a little too late to get that group together. Before you know it, you are two weeks behind. Does this sound familiar?!? Please tell me I'm not the only one!<br />
<br />
As teachers we have great and powerful intentions, but sometimes the to-dos get the best of us! This quote is something I'm going to place very near to my desk. It's something that I DON'T want to forget!<br />
<br />
This chapter has also made me really think about the assessments I give in my own classroom, not just with vocabulary instruction. Every week I give an in-depth reading comprehension/skill assessment based on a skill we worked on as well as some from the past. The passages are usually 1-1.5 pages and the questions have at least 3 constructed response answers. It takes my students any where from 45 minutes to over an hour to complete. Is this what is best for my students?<br />
<br />
This year, I'm going to try and do things a lot differently. My ELA time will be cut into almost half the time I had last year! I'm really going to try and make as many things work together as possible. Most of my reading assessments will come from my class novel we are reading. I'll talk more about this later! I just wanted you to know that chapter 8 had me reflecting on ALL forms of assessment, not just vocabulary!<br />
<br />
The remainder of the chapter was really about different types of formative assessments (during learning, to inform) that I already use in my classroom. Here are some that were mentioned and explained:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down</li>
<li>Observations (very useful & important)</li>
<li>Analyzing Student Work</li>
<li>Teacher Questioning (focusing on student response)</li>
<li>Student-Generated Questions</li>
</ul>
I'm going to end the post with two more quotes I found useful!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-24bTeij-z9A/VbRHLUmNOoI/AAAAAAAAFKo/1YniSJIZmMg/s1600/Slide2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-24bTeij-z9A/VbRHLUmNOoI/AAAAAAAAFKo/1YniSJIZmMg/s640/Slide2.png" width="640" /></a></div>
This again goes along with what I was saying before. We need to slow down and really focus on what our students NEED from us!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B3RHdJONuvs/VbRHLQqjInI/AAAAAAAAFKs/bryThYbxquY/s1600/Slide3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B3RHdJONuvs/VbRHLQqjInI/AAAAAAAAFKs/bryThYbxquY/s640/Slide3.png" width="640" /></a></div>
One of my professional goals a few years ago was giving my students effective feedback. To improve/meet this goal, I read a PL book, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Give-Effective-Feedback-Your-Students/dp/1416607366/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437878931&sr=8-1&keywords=how+to+give+your+students+effective+feedback" target="_blank">How to Give Your Students Effective Feedback</a>. It's a great read to anyone who is interested in this area. It goes right along with this quote. Our feedback needs to be two things! #1: it needs to be timely (ASAP) and #2: it needs to be effective. Your feedback should provide and describe a way they can be a better student or specifically stating what they did well on. Here's what the cover looks like if you are interested.<br />

When we give our students feedback throughout the learning process, we are assessing what they know AND teaching at the same time... how awesome is that?<br />

I would personally like to thank <a href="http://www.lifeinfifthgrade.com/" target="_blank">Leslie Ann from Life in Fifth Grade</a> for motivating me to finally read *and finish* this wonderful PL book! I can't wait to take everything I learned back to my classroom. I desperately needed some direction in vocabulary instruction... I finally have it! :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14712940075769924407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583032695515209069.post-70493591277976467102015-07-26T06:00:00.000-04:002015-07-26T06:00:02.263-04:00BTS in a FLASH {Week 1}: Teacher FavesHi everyone! This picture shows two of my absolute faves.. Mr. Sketch Markers & anchor charts. I create my anchor charts at the end of the school day when my students have went home. I sit at my table, get my supplies ready, turn the lights down and music up, and create! I usually try to do this on Fridays for the next week. It's a great stress reliever for the end of the week :)</div>

<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hLpm8O33b4A/VbOOYgfllCI/AAAAAAAAFJo/TaaEOFlJTx0/s1600/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hLpm8O33b4A/VbOOYgfllCI/AAAAAAAAFJo/TaaEOFlJTx0/s400/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Y'all, we are almost at the end of this wonderful book! Just in time for me to go back into my classroom and get some things done. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Chapter 7 is all about Spreading Vocabulary Wings. I really liked the section on morphology study. Last year, my upper class didn't have a spelling list. Instead, they had 10 morphology words that we would study for 2 weeks then have an assessment over them. This worked really well and the students really learned the meanings of some of these prefixes, suffixes, and roots. I would hear them using what they knew about the parts of words to decode the meaning of other words... it was great! But in reality, they didn't need to know all of the parts we studied because it was a lot! Over the summer, all the 5th grade ELA teachers in my county came together and chose morphology words that we felt our students needed to know. This list is are the words I'm going to focus on this year. There are no more than 10 for each quarter. This will save me a *HUGE* amount of time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As you can imagine, I was overly excited about the Crystal Ball Words in chapter 7. I loved the layout of the graphic organizer and how they can discover new words from a single prefix, suffix, or root word. It's such a powerful way to look at morphology. I plan on using this format but of course I'm going to cutesy it up a bit!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kjXaox5rZxY/VbOR6JtIIXI/AAAAAAAAFJ4/8F9g6dRbW9M/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-kjXaox5rZxY/VbOR6JtIIXI/AAAAAAAAFJ4/8F9g6dRbW9M/s400/Slide1.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This chapter is on my favorites list because it goes on to give year another graphic organizer that can be used for inferring the meaning of vocabulary. It's organized by Clues from the Text//What I already Know//My Inference or Conclusion. This is similar to what I have used in the past when we are talking about <a href="http://www.thecreativeappleteaching.com/2015/03/drawing-conclusions-day-1.html" target="_blank">drawing conclusions</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FJnTBEDJgKw/VbOR6KNdqgI/AAAAAAAAFJ8/2smD2yJ81-g/s1600/Slide2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FJnTBEDJgKw/VbOR6KNdqgI/AAAAAAAAFJ8/2smD2yJ81-g/s400/Slide2.png" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What are some activities you use in your own classroom to help teach vocabulary in context and morphology? I'd love to hear about them!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5OnL9ljV39o/VaFanHZ_QJI/AAAAAAAAFA8/FgHeIHX5790/s1600/plan%2Bnow.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5OnL9ljV39o/VaFanHZ_QJI/AAAAAAAAFA8/FgHeIHX5790/s400/plan%2Bnow.png" width="400" /></a></div>
I can't believe that school starts back for me {pre-planning} in just a short amount of time. After next week, this gal will be going at it full-force! One of the mistakes I have made in the past was not planning my quarters out. What in the world was I thinking?!? Last year, I did this well before it was time to go back, and it was such a life saver! Right now I have my year divided by quarter and the standards I am going to teach in each quarter laid out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TEb_HAIvsAc/VaFUfqjdKdI/AAAAAAAAFAo/5qo4uMXaE5M/s1600/IMG_1934.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TEb_HAIvsAc/VaFUfqjdKdI/AAAAAAAAFAo/5qo4uMXaE5M/s400/IMG_1934.png" width="400" /></a></div>
This part was actually easy because of our county curriculum map. We have a curriculum map for each grade and subject area. We met our first week out of school and the hard work was pretty much already done for me! Now all I had to do was plan it out by weeks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gakWC4sm46o/VaFUQ4LkFGI/AAAAAAAAFAc/FXhb8PRkHAo/s1600/IMG_1931.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="264" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gakWC4sm46o/VaFUQ4LkFGI/AAAAAAAAFAc/FXhb8PRkHAo/s400/IMG_1931.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, the first novels I work with are <u><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Mostly-True-Adventures-Homer-Figg/dp/0439668212/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437653649&sr=8-1&keywords=mostly+true+adventures+of+homer+p+figg" target="_blank">The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg</a></u> with my two lower classes and <u><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Elijah-Buxton-Christopher-Paul-Curtis/dp/0439023459/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1437653684&sr=8-1&keywords=elijah+of+buxton" target="_blank">Elijah of Buxton</a></u> for my two upper classes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A35HR4MaD6k/VbDblmTr7pI/AAAAAAAAFJE/ogGe0uYuCfk/s1600/books.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-A35HR4MaD6k/VbDblmTr7pI/AAAAAAAAFJE/ogGe0uYuCfk/s400/books.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Last year was my first time reading both. If you have never read these books, they are a must! Homer P. Figg is hilarious with great character development. It's about a young boy who is in search of his older brother who was taken unlawfully and forced to enter the Civil War. Elijah is one of my favorite books! It's slow to start but SO worth it in the end. I actually had my students finish a chapter because it was so emotional. There is a real deep meaning to the story so you have to be careful of the students you read it to. It's about a young boy who is in search for something important but learns life lessons along the way. My students LOVED this book, and it's one they wouldn't read on their own.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The last book we will read in 1st quarter is the classic <u>Hatchet</u>. It's obvious that ALL students love this book! <u>Hatchet</u> is a great book to teach all of the story elements as well as figurative language.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay... enough book talk! Here's how my quarter is going to look and what skills I'm going to be teaching!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-znVLcghn5no/VbDf4AxazQI/AAAAAAAAFJQ/Cord5LSh0xc/s1600/Slide1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-znVLcghn5no/VbDf4AxazQI/AAAAAAAAFJQ/Cord5LSh0xc/s640/Slide1.png" width="640" /></a></div>

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7MOfR_WsZo0/Va424WUOaYI/AAAAAAAAFIE/oxDUA04AsQE/s1600/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7MOfR_WsZo0/Va424WUOaYI/AAAAAAAAFIE/oxDUA04AsQE/s320/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" width="320" /></a></div>
Chapter 6 was all about tha' party! There were some really fun ideas on how to motivate your students to study and be prepared for the assessment. Let me mention here that I REALLY love how this book has a focus on low-income students. Over 60% of my students are at or below the poverty line. I would estimate that about 75% of them live with someone other than their biological mom or dad. Only a very small percentage still live with both parents. When these kids come to school, they are already at a disadvantage. It is our responsibility as parents to ensure these kids get exactly what they need! With that said, a lot of the Celebrate to Validate activities involve social interaction. This is a great way to get these students speaking and acting appropriately in various social situations.<br />
<br />
Also, one of the major problems I have in my classroom is the lack of completing homework and studying for tests. The celebration activities are a great way to motivate these students. Who wants to come to class unprepared while everyone else is having a good time? Not me!<br />
<br />
Before we go into some of my favorites, let me add that these are GREAT ways to *review* the information {not in a boring way} before an assessment. What a great way to study!!<br />
<br />
Some of these I liked more than others. Some just fit my personality :)<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li><b><u>Block Party-</u></b> students role play as their word and introduce themselves as their word. Basically, it's a neighborhood social and everyone has a part! Light refreshments are served (cookies, punch) just like a block party!</li>
<li><b><u>Welcome Words!</u></b>- this is another social activity where students role play as their words. They go around and introduce/talk to as many other words as possible.</li>
<li><b><u>Jeopardy/ Deal or No Deal- </u></b>this is pretty self explanatory. Who doesn't like playing game shows? This type of review works for anything! I do like how the students came up with the game questions.</li>
</ul>
Another one I really like {because I like to dance} is the dance party. Who doesn't like to dance?!?<br />
<br />
The next chapter is <i>Spreading Vocabulary Wings</i>. You are really going to love it! It has a great idea for morphology :)Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14712940075769924407noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583032695515209069.post-66303650588059957502015-07-20T10:40:00.005-04:002015-07-20T10:42:39.965-04:00Word Nerds: Chapter 5<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GOMmrh6biEU/Va0GBqaw4_I/AAAAAAAAFHk/vuVh4o5d-yM/s1600/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="245" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GOMmrh6biEU/Va0GBqaw4_I/AAAAAAAAFHk/vuVh4o5d-yM/s400/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Chapter 5 was packed full of different activities you can do in your classroom other than the boring write the definition and use your word correctly in a sentence! They were all great ideas, but some of them I liked more than the others.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here are some I am planning on using in my classroom this year!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li><u>Scramble! </u>{or human concept map}: Have students pair up with some type of connection to each other's word. When the teacher says "scramble!" you mix it up!</li>
<li><u>Word Charades:</u> Act out {with or without words} a skit that portrays your word... my 5th graders will love this!</li>
<li><u>Vocabulary Rap:</u> Students create a rap about their word to help them and others remember the word.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Vocabulary Rap is probably one of my favorites that was mentioned. I am most remembered by my students as the teacher who would sing some crazy stuff! I sing songs, I make up songs, I act silly! It's fun and it gives the students a chance to see that you are human and can have fun! Too many students are afraid of their teachers! LOL Although... my singing may scare them :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love that this book mentioned Flocabulary.com! I am {IN LOVE} with this site and have requested a year subscription for all my students! It's great for ALL subjects... not just ELA. The best thing is that the raps are totally cool (not corny) and the students love them... and remember them!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also love that this chapter did a small focus on speaking & listening. This is a goal I've had since last year. I want to focus on our Speaking & Listening standards more than what we have in the past. I want to remind my students DAILY that the way they speak & listen is important.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have created these cute and easy <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Speaking-Listening-Classroom-Posters-5th-Grade-1969833" target="_blank">posters</a> for your classroom that can be printed on bright paper and hung on the wall. I can't wait to get mine up!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eK95C8fvRrs/VaP8-kgRl_I/AAAAAAAAFFs/8ERrax5bdHQ/s1600/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-eK95C8fvRrs/VaP8-kgRl_I/AAAAAAAAFFs/8ERrax5bdHQ/s320/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today I'm combining chapters 3 and 4. I didn't have much to take away from these two, but I did like the introduction lesson they gave in chapter 3.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My favorite was how Leslie used cloze sentences to have her fifth grade students predict which word would fit with which sentence based on their schema and context. I also liked how she mentioned that sometimes they would get to the last sentence and realize the word wouldn't fit. They would then have to go back and rework the words. She reiterates over and over how great this strategy is for test taking... and I totally agree!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In chapter 4, she mentions the use of vocabulary badges which is a great idea! She suggested using the words and their meaning to have students line up, answer random questions, etc. I like this idea, but I still haven't decided if it is something I'm going to use in my own classroom. If this is something you are interested in, you need to check out <a href="http://www.lifeinfifthgrade.com/2015/07/word-nerds-book-study-chapter-4-with.html" target="_blank">Leslie Ann's post</a> and her adorable badges. I saw her badges, but I haven't read her chapter 4 post! I'm going to check that out now! :)</div>

I've been brainstorming all summer how I'm going to get it all done. I honestly am still not 100% sure, but I have started having some type of idea.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FnzE6rGeZ2Q/VaZa_FHJ6GI/AAAAAAAAFGE/tgpoM5W_xaU/s1600/schedule.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="270" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FnzE6rGeZ2Q/VaZa_FHJ6GI/AAAAAAAAFGE/tgpoM5W_xaU/s400/schedule.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Notice the BIG purple writing at the bottom... yeah... I'm still trying to figure that out!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
There are certain things that I absolutely will not do away with like independent reading, read alouds, and seat work. I introduced seat work last year about half way, and it totally saved my sanity. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X-L2Iz6E0rY/VaZeHtha0yI/AAAAAAAAFGQ/c_uxMl3PkYk/s1600/tpt%2Blarge%2Bbanner.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-X-L2Iz6E0rY/VaZeHtha0yI/AAAAAAAAFGQ/c_uxMl3PkYk/s400/tpt%2Blarge%2Bbanner.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I NEVER had an issue with students getting busy right away. They use the entire passage all week and do different things to their writing each day. Some weeks are literary and some are informational. They were always eager to see what type of passage they were getting on Mondays. You can check it out <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Terri-Thornton/Category/Common-Core-Morning-Seat-Work" target="_blank">here</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm still working on how everything is going to work and how much time I'm going to devote to each part (read alouds, mini-lessons, writing, grammar, independent reading).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7vr4_gjymM0/VaZg8w6gl_I/AAAAAAAAFGw/Emt5fYGzvho/s1600/everyday.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="90" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-7vr4_gjymM0/VaZg8w6gl_I/AAAAAAAAFGw/Emt5fYGzvho/s400/everyday.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Seat work (7 minutes, set timer)</li>
<li>Vocabulary (most on Monday)</li>
<li>Read aloud </li>
<li>Reading Skill (linked with read aloud)</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Grammar (Day 1 (Tues.): Intro/Anchor; Day 2 (Wed.): Practice; Day 3 (Thurs.): Individual/Group (as needed)</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R-XoKw7x8Uo/VaZg854Gj7I/AAAAAAAAFGs/w9X3uYg-P_g/s1600/1-2days.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="108" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-R-XoKw7x8Uo/VaZg854Gj7I/AAAAAAAAFGs/w9X3uYg-P_g/s320/1-2days.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Writing (Day 1: Anchor/Mentor Text/Model; Day 2: Practice)</li>
<li>Informational Writing will be done mostly in science & social studies</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SPeKhS_dzO4/VaZg9PWhbRI/AAAAAAAAFG0/rkc7Mck9BN0/s1600/notes.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="79" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-SPeKhS_dzO4/VaZg9PWhbRI/AAAAAAAAFG0/rkc7Mck9BN0/s320/notes.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul>
<li>Continue to assess reading skills on Friday (bi-weekly)</li>
<li>Spelling/vocabulary Assessments (bi-weekly/alternate weeks)</li>
<li>Vocabulary Cycle: 10 days, 2 weeks</li>
<li>Grammar (Tues/Wed/Thurs)</li>
<li>Writing (Thurs/Fri)</li>
</ul>
And the question still lingers...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NILfDkwCVBA/VaZlPGx1lzI/AAAAAAAAFHA/9k6MDfURAE0/s1600/when.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="75" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NILfDkwCVBA/VaZlPGx1lzI/AAAAAAAAFHA/9k6MDfURAE0/s640/when.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
This is something I will still need to think about. Do you all have any questions about my schedule or when I'm going to do certain things? Comment below and I'll answer them.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14712940075769924407noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583032695515209069.post-60413405634311269062015-07-13T09:59:00.004-04:002015-07-13T09:59:47.275-04:00Vocabulary Routine {Based off Word Nerds}<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

If you have missed my Word Nerds post, be sure to click <a href="http://www.thecreativeappleteaching.com/search/label/Word%20Nerds" target="_blank">here</a>. Trust me, you don't want to miss out! Especially on the post from yesterday! Chapter 2 really got my gears turning in terms of vocabulary instruction. You can read that post <a href="http://www.thecreativeappleteaching.com/2015/07/word-nerds-ch-2-wow.html" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
In my chapter 2 post, I promised to go into more detail today about what my plans are for vocabulary instruction based on <u>Word Nerds</u>. Keep in mind that these plans may change! I'm only on chapter 3 :)<br />
<br />
Remember this picture from my post yesterday, Instagram, and Facebook?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UzpEqlRwaak/VaO2rOevqBI/AAAAAAAAFC4/eD_1A5cQxoE/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="375" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-UzpEqlRwaak/VaO2rOevqBI/AAAAAAAAFC4/eD_1A5cQxoE/s400/1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
It has received so many shares and likes {which I love, by the way}! First, let me tell you what my classes and schedule are like. Here are a few things you should know!<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I teach ELA to the entire 5th grade</li>
<li>I teach 4 classes of ELA</li>
<li>I have an advanced gifted class, an upper average class, lower average class, and a co-teaching special needs class</li>
<li>I only have 70 minutes to teach reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary</li>
</ul>
I know, I feel the same way! How am I going to make all this work? I'm really not sure, but I have something in the works that I will be sharing soon!<br />
<br />
Here are my plans for vocabulary instruction. I'll try to present it in a way that makes sense! To be honest, I was just writing things as they came to me.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hft5vWcA_ms/VaPA4V_izVI/AAAAAAAAFDQ/7Kd-V2SFwm8/s1600/Slide4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Hft5vWcA_ms/VaPA4V_izVI/AAAAAAAAFDQ/7Kd-V2SFwm8/s640/Slide4.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Since time is of the essence this year, I am pretty much going to be teaching everything through my read alouds. Last year, read alouds were just a time for the students to come together, relax, and listen to a great story. We are going to be working with these novels this year and that is where my vocabulary will come from!<br />
<br />
Have you ever read either one of these books? They are both excellent. I still haven't decided what to do about the 2 different texts. Elijah is a more mature book for my upper 2 classes and Homer P. Figg is easier to follow for my lower 2 classes. I really don't want to do the work for two books at a time, but I really want to keep the two separate... decisions!!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5MU3YTh1sIw/VaPA7ZYI4nI/AAAAAAAAFDc/Rfi2fdB_wSw/s1600/Slide5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-5MU3YTh1sIw/VaPA7ZYI4nI/AAAAAAAAFDc/Rfi2fdB_wSw/s640/Slide5.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Most of our vocabulary instruction will come on Mondays. We will still work on vocabulary through the next 2 weeks (my cycle will be 2 weeks meaning we test bi-weekly) but most will be finished by our very first day, so students can work with these words and use them. The handout mentioned here will be similar to the teacher example they have on pg. 33, but mine will be for the students :)<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gSVuxt_w3tk/VaPA6yAkgkI/AAAAAAAAFDY/9YwlJIy37F8/s1600/Slide6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gSVuxt_w3tk/VaPA6yAkgkI/AAAAAAAAFDY/9YwlJIy37F8/s640/Slide6.png" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Please note, the text should read, "Before **our** read aloud"</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Last year, we studied morphology HARD! We had 10 words that we worked on for 2 weeks and then the students had a quiz. This summer, all the 5th grade ELA teachers in the county came together and chose 5th grade morphology words that we felt our students needed to study. There are only 12-15 per quarter, so they will be included in our vocabulary study. I will include around 3 words per cycle.<br />
<br />
There you have it! I can't wait to read chapter 3 to gain more insight and other great ideas!<br />
<br />Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14712940075769924407noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7583032695515209069.post-78023225517031961872015-07-12T08:00:00.000-04:002015-07-12T08:00:06.465-04:00Word Nerds: Ch. 2... WOW!!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iHd928fdla0/VaFS6cHNiHI/AAAAAAAAFAA/ngQPMQa9TOM/s1600/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="196" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iHd928fdla0/VaFS6cHNiHI/AAAAAAAAFAA/ngQPMQa9TOM/s320/Word%2BNerd%2BBook%2BStudy.png" width="320" /></a></div>
I don't know what it was about chapter 2, but it has really inspired me. It may be that I finally sat down and paced out my year and focused on a weekly plan for my 1st quarter. I'm really not sure but WOW!! Here are some take aways I got from chapter 2.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GZlBfOWyAyM/VaHHMFdcjaI/AAAAAAAAFBo/IZQwylBMzXE/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="190" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-GZlBfOWyAyM/VaHHMFdcjaI/AAAAAAAAFBo/IZQwylBMzXE/s400/1.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was something I feel like I'm already doing. However, it WAS something I had an issue with! I'm a control freak! I have a certain way I like things, and I like for them to stay that way. When I first started teaching, I had all the supplies hidden in a closet and expected the students to use them ONLY when they asked. After a few years of teaching, I finally decided that I wanted my students to feel a sense of community in my classroom. It's a very laid back atmosphere where anything goes! Now, my supplies are by my front door in labeled containers.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-alcQbtt9jPM/VaHMwSVPc1I/AAAAAAAAFCQ/RpMbx7QsOsE/s1600/1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-alcQbtt9jPM/VaHMwSVPc1I/AAAAAAAAFCQ/RpMbx7QsOsE/s400/1.png" width="297" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Ummm... hello?!? Do you really need any other rules? These three, simple rules cover the basics to have a class of students ready to learn!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hPsw0f_lGN0/VaHHE1ZDaMI/AAAAAAAAFBg/YDBzbj9FiE8/s1600/3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="163" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hPsw0f_lGN0/VaHHE1ZDaMI/AAAAAAAAFBg/YDBzbj9FiE8/s400/3.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I've always done this. This aligns with the number of multiple exposures students need in order to reach mastery. If they are using and reading it... they are learning it! I try to keep the really BIG ideas up all year.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HHQ8W-nqj-s/VaHHFid8FHI/AAAAAAAAFBs/0rwBDH5D4aE/s1600/4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="160" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-HHQ8W-nqj-s/VaHHFid8FHI/AAAAAAAAFBs/0rwBDH5D4aE/s400/4.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was something I was guilty of. I knew we needed to be working with Tier 2 words more, but there wasn't enough time. This year I have even less time because I'm teaching 4 classes instead of 2! But I'm going to make it work!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-61f9w1mku50/VaHHFxVB1tI/AAAAAAAAFBk/pmBmzIgk220/s1600/5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="197" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-61f9w1mku50/VaHHFxVB1tI/AAAAAAAAFBk/pmBmzIgk220/s400/5.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm going to be working on some cute posters/student handouts for these. We will have these posted in kid-friendly terms and the students will have a handout in their binder. I want them to know the standards!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-60JqrfdAwhY/VaHHMtB_Q4I/AAAAAAAAFBw/vY4_HFONxpg/s1600/6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="126" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-60JqrfdAwhY/VaHHMtB_Q4I/AAAAAAAAFBw/vY4_HFONxpg/s400/6.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I am all about routines! This part of the book is where a huge bulb went off in my head! If you follow me on <a href="https://instagram.com/thecreativeapple/" target="_blank">Instagram</a> then you probably saw this picture!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I was like... perfect! This is a plan I have right now! Keep in mind, I have not read ahead. I am just on chapter 3. Some things I have in mind may change a bit. I'll be sharing that post tomorrow! You don't want to miss it! How in the world will I fit vocabulary in a 70 minute Reading/ELA block? FIND OUT!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Don't forget to go check out what Ms. Leslie Ann has to say over on <a href="http://www.lifeinfifthgrade.com/2015/07/words-nerds-chapter-2.html" target="_blank">Life in Fifth Grade</a>. She's a chapter ahead of me, so I try not to read hers until I have mine done! However, her post on Instagram kind of gave away some things she's planning on doing in her class. They look very similar to what I shared here... great minds DO think alike!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy summer, y'all! I hope you are having a great time off. I will soon be going back. I know.... it's a little scary! I'm so not ready! This week on Favorite Pins Friday is a little low key. I have been trying out <a href="https://www.tailwindapp.com/" target="_blank">Tailwind</a> which is great! It lets you schedule your pins. However, I haven't been on Pinterest much lately... GUILTY! I need to get back on and schedule a few more for the next few weeks. Like I said, Tailwind is great, but I think you should still be on there pinning stuff along with it. So, let's get started! Don't forget the rules... don't pin these images directly from page (unless it's #5). Click on the picture to go into Pinterest to pin. That way, the correct author gets credit!</div>

This is a great pin if you are a TpT seller. These tips will get your product descriptions looking great. Here's an example of one <a href="https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Paraphrasing-Summarizing-and-Quoting-Lapbook-1949268" target="_blank">I did</a> in my own shop.</div>

Ummm... hello?!? Isn't this just the most adorable camera strap? I want this super bad! I'm getting a new camera today {hopefully} and I can't wait. I LOVED my Canon 40D {super nice} but it was just too big, heavy, and smart for what I needed. Today a new Canon Rebel with two new lenses {it's a lot more lighter} is on it's way to my home... can't wait! This will be my first accessory I buy for it. Isn't the lens cover pocket adorable? </div>

Using songs and other means of media is something I really want to ramp up in my classroom. I will hopefully be getting a Flocabulary.com subscription for all 4 of my classes. These are adorable songs and raps for all subject areas!</div>

This is something I worked on this week. I CAN'T WAIT to have my students complete this in class. My favorite part is that it has an anchor chart example and then a cloze format notes page for the students to fill out as you go over the anchor chart. For only $3.50... you should definitely go check it out!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's all for this week! Don't forget to follow me on Pinterest and social media!</div>
